A carport is a structure that can be used to store and protect vehicles or even boats from vagaries of nature like snow, sun, rain, hail and even air. Carports are becoming more popular than garages due to several reasons like durability, ease of assembly and maintenance, expandability, lower cost, space flexibility, good ventilation, and neatness. Carports can be made from wood or metal but most people prefer metal structures because of their strength and durability. Moreover, they can be easily assembled in just a few days. There are many websites offering quality metal carports along with carport kits, metal garages, utility storage sheds, and livestock shelters.
Aluminum made carports is sturdier compared to polyethylene make. This type of carport can easily be assembled in less time. It is also more durable than the above mentioned material. For maximum durability however, steel or metal carports are still the best. It is more expensive than other types of carports but it is highly recommended if you can afford it. Metal carports are properly treated with modern facilities and procedures to ensure rust proof qualities for longer protection. Metal carports are ideal for permanent use and not advisable to be moved frequently. Size also matters when choosing the carport for your needs. There are carports just enough to accommodate one car. But if you have more vehicles, you can choose a bigger sized carport capable of protecting three or more cars.
Metal and any kind of carport facility, for this matter, can be used in a lot of other ways. It can also be used as a storage area for other things that can no longer be accommodated inside the house. Some carports are big enough to be used as an entertainment area. A few chairs here and there, plus a table, and one can have a place where friends can play bridge, talk, eat or even have a band rehearsal. Just open the sides to let the fresh air in. Metal carports generally cost less than wooden carports. The cost is not the only advantage of metal over wooden carports. The former is more durable, less prone to cracks, fires, rodent and termite attacks. An owner can still avail of the aesthetics of wooden materials by using Alumawood.
Using a trim on the carports overhang will give it a more defined look that may compliment the exterior designs and colors of your home. The usual trim for a carport is a corner trim of about three inches. It is attached to the high rib part of your panel with the use of screws and having the same color as your metal trim. A "Jamb Trim" or "J-Trim" is used along the bottom part of a carport. These trims are placed by the bottom side of a carport so that it can match the corner trims that you may put along an overhang. J-Trims should be tucked under the bottom of the last panel. It will be screwed using screws having the same color as the metal panel. It can be attached onto the bottom part of the panel that has the J-Trim. It can also be placed underneath and up to the metal carport frame. Back enclosures are used for closing off an end of a carport. It can also be used for your carports end portions. It is used to add protection against elements like the wind. Back enclosures can make your carport look like more of a garage while giving your carport added strength and protection.
